Ibuprofen is one of the most successful drugs used worldwide for the treatment of mild to moderate pain and various inflammatory conditions, even in a low-dose form for over-the-counter (OTC), non-prescription sale. Over the past 40 years, ibuprofen has been proven to be as safe or safer and just as effective as established non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or coxibs.

This book reviews the pharmacology, clinical uses and adverse effects of ibuprofen. Its disposition and unique modes of action in relation to clinical effects are discussed as well as various formulations and the impact of food and other variables on its actions and gastro-intestinal safety. The use of combinations of ibuprofen with other drugs (e.g. paracetamol, codeine and caffeine) are critically assessed. About the Author

Wolfgang Kresse

Wolfgang Kresse is a Professor for Geographic Information Systems and Photogrammetry at the University of Applied Sciences in Neubrandenburg, Germany. As a visiting professor he was affiliated to the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing in Ottawa (2002/2003) and to the University of Maine, USA (2008/2009). Formerly, he worked as a software developer and customer trainer for Carl Zeiss Company with focus on graphics, photogrammetry, and data exchange. Wolfgang Kresse is the leading author of the book ISO Standards for Geographic Information published by Springer.

He is the project leader of the ISO 19159, Calibration and validation of remote sensing imagery sensors and data, in the ISO/TC 211, Geographic information / Geomatics. He has been involved in the development of ISO 19130, Imagery sensor models for geopositioning, and in standardization activities of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) as well as in the German Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.

Wolfgang Kresse holds a Diploma Degree in Geodesy and a Doctor-Degree in Digital Cartography, both of the University of Bonn, Germany.

David Danko is a Senior Consultant for GIS standards. In this capacity he ensures that ESRI software and services are interoperable and comply with the appropriate national, international, and industry standards. He represents ESRI on the OGC Planning Committ

As a senior consultant for GIS Standards, Mr. Danko has provided workshops on standards, metadata, and spatial data infrastructures in the United States, Japan, South Africa, Italy, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Central America, and China and has participated in an advisory role in several regional and national spatial data infrastructures.

As a physical scientist–senior standards manager with DMA, he was responsible for developing and managing agency policies and programs to ensure standardization and interoperability between DMA imagery and geospatial systems, U.S. DoD agencies, U.S. civilian agencies, and the military and civilian geospatial information communities of other nations. He previously served as Project Manager for an international research and development initiative that resulted in the development of the vector product format (VPF) military standard and the digital chart of the World (DCW); the DCW was the first in a new series of digital vector products on CD–ROM. Earlier in his career he worked in the areas of remote sensing, analytical triangulation, imagery data extraction and cartographic production.

In his ISO Standardization activities he has been Project Leader in the Technical Committee (TC) 211–ISO 19115 Metadata Revision (2009–present), Chair of the Metadata Working Group in the Open GIS Consortium (2001–present), and a Technical and Planning Committee Representative in the Open GIS Consortium (2001

–present).

"Surfaces" - rightly described by other reviewers as "scholarship" - is canonical in its importance. "Surfaces" is anything but superficial: it is history, it is epistemology, it is psychology, it is mysticism, it is prophecy. And, in my reading of it, "Surfaces" is an exposition of a subtle trinity of existence: to touch is to know; to be touched is to be known; to touch is to be touched (to know is to be known). This book will probably take several months out of your life and it will then "refund" you with an understanding that to be in touch with reality is to be in touch with yourself.

Finally, A Book That Speaks the Truth About Celibacy

Like most Catholics, we wonder how our priests do it. How do they live without sex? How do they remain committed to their vows in a culture where historically the church has had a repressed view of sex? Are priests left hopelessly lonely, without intimacy and of ever finding a path towards spiritual and psycho-sexual integration?

I read this book with curiosity, wondering how my priest friends might really live celibate lives and remain healthy. I wondered too how I might encourage my priest friends as I walk with them in ministry. I hoped I might at least find in this book some clues.

With the first chapter, I found myself surprisingly engaged in conversation with myself. Every thought I had ever had about the subject was addressed in an approachable way. Fr. Manuel draws one into the heart of the bigger picture where grace is found. I had to wrestle with the question of how any of us ultimately fulfills those longings that are not about sex but rather, about our deep longings for intimacy. Halfway through the book the conversation became an investigation of "Healthy Pathways for All." For most laypersons, sex ultimately becomes more about fidelity and intimacy. And to this, we are all human. Every priest or anyone who also longs to find happiness with or without sexual fulfillment should read this book.

Manuel's lived experience as a Catholic priest, and his background as a Clinical Psychologist, give this book a depth and authenticity that is refreshingly honest and open for such a difficult topic. It helps that he illustrates his points with concrete stories from priests and religious men and women who have also lived, and are living, this reality. This book also has much to say to those of us who are not celibate about love, sexuality and commitment. I believe anyone can benefit from its wisdom about human relationships in general, as well as what it says about our own intimate committed relationships. Well written and worth reading!

At last, something for human priests!

Fr. Manuel writes a book on a difficult subject and treats priests (and others) as real people, human beings! I like his many examples and stories, and how he treats celibacy as a choice to be lived out of human daily living. Men and women of all types, faiths and lifestyles choose to be celibate. To live this in a healthy, human way takes smarts as much as faith. This is a book that stresses both in a way that brings them into an integral blend of good human living.
